Mixed Doubles - Round 2
12 August 2009
Its obviously been a lot harder to fit the matches in over the last play period with only 7 out of the 12 matches completed. However, congratulations to Box 2 for completing all their matches after the extension. Commiserations and a plea to try harder for Box 4. Come on, Box 4!
With a few matches missing in 3 boxes, I have had to call on the rules to determine the promotion and relegation issues, including a random draw for Box 4 – come on Box 4!
In Box 1, the match between Sue & Bruce and Richard & Lynn was not played. Lynn & Richard finished equal on points with Carolyn & Denis but the former pair were placed first on fewer sets lost. Sue & Bruce are relegated with no points from the single match they played.
In Box 3, the match between Lesley & Mike and Pam & Paul could not be played. Ann & John were relegated but the promotion was decided in favour of Lesley & Mike as they won more games than Pam & Paul.
Promotion from Box 4 was a straight draw and Linda & Geoff won! Come on Box 4!
The final tables are available on this link.
With the promotion and relegation issues resolved, the new boxes are:
Box 1: Lynn & Richard, Carolyn & Dennis, Jennie & Brendan
Box 2: Sue & Bruce, Marilyn & Dave, Lesley & Mike
Box 3: Sandie & Stephen, Pam & Paul, Linda & Geoff
Box 4: Ann & John, Kate & Mick, Eileen & Alan (Come on Box 4!)
It is, of course, unsatisfactory for the promotion & relegation to be determined when key matches are left un-played, particularly when one pair has a clear advantage in the match being left un-played. I know that it is difficult to arrange matches particularly over the summer with holidays and, as the tournament organiser, I hope that everyone is making their best efforts and not using the rules to gain an unfair advantage.
However, that said, the aim is to play tennis and you have from now until midnight on Sunday September 13th to complete Round 3 before we enter the knockout phase. Watch out for a further news item with details, soon!
